The text department assembles extracts from historical sources, ethnographic documents and historical language surveys; but in particular literary notes of famous writers are being added in addition to personal memos of pilgrims and travellers. This compilation is being complemented by novel samples, legends and fantastic tales which have been taken from diaries and essays, as well as a corpus of poems. The texts derive from culturally different european backgrounds one can find along the Camino de Santigo which give us simultaneously an insight into their linguistic diversity. On the whole, the assortment offers numerous representative examples of an écriture of the Camino de Santiago, which thrived over centuries in each and every european country that was touched by one of the Roads to Santiago. This holds true up to the present day: nowadays the Camino de Santiago generates more texts than ever. (Further extracts can be found in the atlas of the Roads to Santiago on the homepage.)
