Project

The project aims at presenting languages and cultures one can encounter alongside the Road to Santiago and at illustrating their contribution to the cultural heritage of Europe - with specific attention to cultural minority groups. Thereby cultural manifestations are to be communicated beyond the respective national borders. At the same time it is a question of reactivating former connections and to encourage an intense exchange between languages and cultures alongside the Road to Santiago. It is scheduled

• to communicate the linguistic and cultural diversity, the languages' origins and their mutual relations; and furthermore to spotlight essential elements of European identity;
• to inform pilgrims and other interested parties about both the emergence and development of the European languages and their past and current relations;
• to contribute to a better understanding of local and regional cultures alongside the Road to Santiago; and by doing so to emphasise the idea of a Europe beyond regional borders.

Accordingly, the project tends to reflect the historic relationship between different languages and cultures of the Way of St. James in order to promote knowledge about European linguistic diversity, its origins and connections among the languages; to emphasise linguistic and cultural diversity inherent to European identity.

• Establishment of a European network of cultural agents coordinating the spreading and knowledge of European cultures and languages linked to the Road to Santiago.
• Conference on Europe with regard to its languages and cultures.
• Common strategic action plan with the objective to apply innovation and creativity to cultural promotion strategies in Europe.
• Agenda for transnational spreading in Europe according to the Roads to Santiago de Compostela (travelling exhibition, materials, etc.).- Development of a multilingual website on cultural history of different European regions connected to the Road to Santiago.
